Orphan

In its literal meaning being an orphan is a very sad thing. Orphan as we know it is when a child lost both parents because of natural or accidental death. The child is left with no one to take care of him or her.

However, in these days and age parents leave children unattended temporarily or permanently. The parents may be alive and live in the same house but with no physical or emotional attachment to the child.
Alcoholic and drug addict parents are usually absent in their children’s care. More or less unattended children are like orphans with parents. They have to help themselves to grow up fast. Children who grew up this way and orphans experience the same kind of loss, sadness and hopelessness. This type of environment forces children sometimes to be disobedient and lack social skills. It is very easy for them to pick a fight than settle differences through discussion. Finally as part of the solution to their problem, they seek people that are in the same category as a survival strategy. To reduce problems of children, State and local governments had set up agencies such as child protection services and adoptions. These agencies try to provide basic needs such as temporary shelters and clothing but they do not have the necessary resources to provide emotional support or treatment to these emotionally wounded children.
